Pay attention

The task for us is to make ourselves available to God each day and to pay attention.  – Adam Hamilton, author of Why? Making Sense of God’s Will        boy and girl watching

Paying attention has been on my heart lately.  It takes so little effort to make someone feel good and appreciated.  Actually, the reverse is true as well.  Simple actions can make or break a day.

People who make other people feel good are people you want to be around.  Time when people are around you is time and opportunity for you to witness.  Anytime you do something kind is a witness.  The reverse of that is true as well.

Mr. Hamilton is right.  I want to be more available to God and pay more attention; to God and His children.

Life Balance Quiz

Today’s post is an exercise for you.  timepiece

Take a piece of paper and write the following categories across the top:

Prayer  Studying the Word, Work, School, Family, Health, Rest, Community, Fun, Home, Social Media

As I wrote my own, I added a category – Blog.  You may need to add categories personal to you as well.

Every day is different to a degree so just generalize your typical weekday.  Allocate the hours you spend each day by category.

Do the same for how you spend your time on the weekend (Combine the hours for Saturday and Sunday).

Take your weekday total and multiply by 5.  Total the hours and divide by 168 (hours in a week).

I’m sure you know what we’re doing.  Look at where the majority and minority of your time is spent.  It’s eye opening, isn’t it!

No one is grading you, but you.  God already knows how you are spending your time.

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.

Treat Your Witness Like Your Work

Do we treat our witness like our work?OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If our boss tells us to do something we do it, according to our job description.

Jesus gave us our job description in Matthew 28:18

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

The company I represent recently had it’s annual national conference.  People who attended came away from those 3 days all fired up; motivated to get home and work hard and smart for their reward.

Wouldn’t it be something if we treated our witness like our work; with the same sense of urgency to do a good job and give a favorable report to our boss?

I love what Dale Evans Rogers wrote about herself (wife of Roy for us older folks)!

Yes, this woman at the well loves Christ with her whole heart, and she is not ashamed to tell the world what he has done for her.

It always feels good to get praise and a, “Well done,” from the people we work for.  But our energies should be balanced as we strive to hear the greatest “Well done'” of all.

How would you be reviewed for your work for the kingdom?
